Periodical Indexes

Periodical indexes are an excellent way to produce bibliographies for your research papers. They save time, cover many years in one search, and allow you to produce a tidy printout instead of having to take notes.

Each of the titles listed below allows you to:

  1. produce a bibliography using keywords or controlled subject terms,
  2. review your entire list,
  3. mark relevant citations on your topic, and
  4. print your bibliography.

These indexes are installed ONLY on selected workstations in the Library's lobby area. Most of the cds are kept at the Reference Desk, tell the librarian which index you need to use and sign up at the Reference Desk for that system. You are guaranteed a half hour search time with the cd.

CommSearch 3rd edition -- provides indexing to 26 journals in Communications and has full-text for six journals from 1991-1996. The six journal are: Communication Education, Communication Monographs, Critical Studies in Media Communications, Journal of Applied Communication Research, Quarterly Journal of Speech and Text and Perfromance Quarterly. Several of the journals are available through other formats - check the Periodical Holdings List.

Most former titles are available now as part of the library's web-based indexes with FullText articles, if you are looking for a different index please check there. Some have also changed their name over the years.
