As a selective depository for federal documents the Library owns a number of government publications and periodicals. Most government documents are catalogued with Library of Congress classification numbers and interfiled with the collection. Reference items are located with Reference materials, periodical government documents shelved with "paper" items in the Periodical Room and other materials shelved with circulating materials. Lesser items are housed in the Reference Room under their SuDoc classification numbers.
