Fleming1 1	The original Fleming Hall (also called the Academic Building) was erected in 1892 and was the first academic building on campus. It was named for Governor Aretus Brooks Fleming (1890-1893). At first the building was used for almost everything. In the northern section there was a dining room and kitchen, bedrooms were on the second floor and the remaining space was used for classrooms. After the girls' dormitory was built, it became a boys' dormitory. Eventually in 1940, the building was dismantled.
