College Horse c.1935
WVSU (originally WVCI) was created as one of the 1891 "colleges for the benefit of agriculture and the mechanic arts." Agricultural study has been a priority since WVCI; this photo shows a beautiful horse and his proud handler posing for a shot on the college farm.

1948 WVSC Basketball Team
The 1948 West Virginia State College basketball team completed an undefeated season. 2018 marks the 70^th anniversary of this outstanding accomplishment.

Camp Washington-Carver
Originally created by an Act of the WV Legislature in 1937 as the West Virginia "Negro 4-H camp," to provide the state's black youth with a designated recreation and camping area in which the extension services department of WVSC would provide educational opportunities in vocational agriculture, soil conservation, home economics, and 4-H standards"*, it was later renamed Camp Washington-Carver. This photo shows children working to set up a tent on the property of the camp located at Clifftop in Fayette County. WVSC ran and operated the camp until 1978. In 1979, the West Virginia Division of Culture and History took over the responsibilities. Camp Washington-Carver now serves the state as a mountain arts cultural center. It is listed in the: *National Register of Historic Places.

Canty House 8
Originally constructed in 1923 by James M. Canty, the Canty house has an interesting history. Nominated for the National Register of Historic Places, its Greek-revival architecture sets it apart from most buildings in the surrounding area. The Canty House has also changed locations on campus three times; this is the house during one of its moves. It currently serves as the WVSU Sports Hall of Fame. It is on National Register of Historic Places
